The philosophy of the Torrington Municipal & Teachers Federal Credit Union (TMTFCU) has always been and continues to be people helping people. TMTFCU is a community chartered federal credit union with a field of membership based on those individuals that live, work, worship, volunteer or go to school in Litchfield County and business’ or organizations located there. We are a not for profit financial cooperative owned by our members. Our goal is to become the primary financial institution for all our members.

Our roots go back to 1960 to the municipal workers in Torrington. In 1990 we merged with the Teachers Credit Union. We expanded to include teachers and municipal workers in Litchfield, New Hartford, and Winsted. Gradually our field of membership increased to include public and private businesses throughout not only the City of Torrington but also all of Litchfield County.

In 2004 we added the Litchfield County Federal Credit Union. We emerged a larger and stronger credit union. Our field of membership grew to include all of Litchfield County. We continue to grow and be an alternative financial institution for the Litchfield County community.
